MEET THE TEAM
OFFICERS
Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Kristen Nicole Gamble
For over a decade Kristen has been committed to her role as a Social Worker for the County of San Bernardino, a journey that continues to unfold. Her lifelong dedication to animal advocacy traces back to childhood dreams of becoming a veterinarian - a path she veered away from upon discovering her challenges with science, yet her passion for helping animals remained undiminished. Early on, Kristen ventured into the world of animal rescue, initially working solo before taking the leap to establish her own rescue organization.
Throughout her journey, Kristen has been an ardent foster parent to numerous cats and dogs, saving animals in need and actively contributing to their welfare. She finds profound fulfillment in providing for animals in need, ensuring they remain in caring homes, and rehabilitating dogs to secure them a new, loving forever home. Kristen’s overarching mission is to enlighten the community on the critical importance of spaying and neutering to mitigate the overpopulation crisis among cats and dogs, aiming to significantly reduce animal euthanasia rates.
Chief Financial Officer
Vanessa Traufler-Samarripa
I’m Vanessa, and if there’s a cat or kitten in need, you can bet I’ve had the pleasure of fostering it - or at least tried to. My life is a whirlwind of whiskers and purrs, with the occasional woof from a canine friend thrown in for good measure. Each furball I’ve cared for has taught me something new about animal behavior and rehab, helping me play a small part in their big adventure to find their forever homes. When I’m not busy turning my home into a temporary pet paradise, I’m diving into the world of pet diagnostics at Antech. There, I delve into the world of training and instruction, using cutting-edge learner experiences to make sure our furry pals get the best and most accurate care possible.
When I’m not surrounded by purrs and wagging tails, you’ll find me exploring new places or diving into the deep blue sea. These adventures help me stay grounded and inspired. My love for animals is the driving force behind everything I do, and I’m always excited to meet fellow animal enthusiasts.
SECRETARY-Dude
Mitch Rice
Mitch Rice, board secretary, affectionately known as Secretary Dude. A father first and steady presence in the chaos of rescue, Mitch found his way into animal rescue through Kristen, founder of One Mutt at a Time Rescue Foundation, and quickly grew from supporter to essential part of the mission. When OMAT launched in 2022, he jumped in with both feet and never slowed down. Often referred to as the muscle behind OMAT, Mitch handles much of the heavy lifting, literally and logistically. Coordinating cross-country animal transports, securing vehicles, organizing supply runs, planning event layouts, and stepping in whenever something needs to get done.
His professional background with U-Haul has been an incredible asset, helping not just OMAT, but fellow rescues move animals and vital supplies where they’re needed most. But beyond the logistics, Mitch has a gift. He’s OMAT’s dog whisperer. With a calm, gentle presence, he connects with dogs of every background, even those who are fearful or shut down. Again and again, animals who won’t settle for anyone else find safety in his arms.
At the heart of Mitch’s work is a simple mission, to make sure every animal who comes through OMAT feels safe, protected, and loved. He believes rescue isn’t just about getting animals off the streets, it’s about what happens after. The patience, the kindness, the steady care that helps them heal. And while he may be known as the muscle, those who’ve seen him cradle a scared dog like a baby know his greatest strength is his gentle heart.
